Built several pieces of key infrastructure at Amazon.com working on multiple teams in Perl, C++, and Java. Projects and responsibilities included:
-
•IMDb.com Theaters Sole developer for all aspects of IMDb’s video platform, including uploads, ingestion, transcoding, Flash players, content-delivery networks, tranmission protocols, surfacing, and relations, in a distributed high-availability environment.
-
•Mechanical Turk http://amazon.com/mechturk Developed distributed database system to allow scalable access to large amounts of relational data, using MySQL instances as nodes in a Chord-like architecture.
-
•Target.com and Seller Central http://target.com http://sellercentral.amazon.com Helped build the web server software for Amazon’s next generation platform, first launched for target.com and Seller Central, Amazon’s web-based content-management software for merchants; specifically, building the safe Perl-based template engine for web developers, and co-inventing a content release system. This platform is now used for all Amazon external websites.
-
•Education and Mentorship. Delivered several training courses and single lectures for web developers and Perl programmers on topics such as OO programming, internationalization, XSLT, and Amazon’s proprietary web frameworks. Winner of internal company innovation award.

I am against the non-defensive use of software patents, and am an open source contributor.
Systems Operations Manager, Amazon.com — 1998-2000
Developed the 24x7 monitoring team at Amazon.com from 3 people in a closet with a browser to over 40 people monitoring global operations via multiple System/Network Operations Centers across the US.
